The answer to that is simple. Read the thread again about him starting to write the book. When he was first writing it, he made it clear that he was going to try his hardest to get his book published by a publisher. He spoke about “sample chapters” to be sent to publishers and asked for advice from writers on this forum who have been published before. Of course people were encouraging him to do this.
What eventually happened was very different from how he presented it in that thread. Say if he had started the thread off thus:
“I want to write a book about JWs and my life. After much effort, no publisher has been willing to pick up and fund this endeavour of mine. I am quitting my job to focus on working on these books and videos fullltime. Therefore I am asking that all of you donate to me so I can make this happen. My second book will include the provision of having your story re-told and published by me for the discounted price of $150. You will also have your picture taken with me, Lloyd Evans, for paying for this “perk”. This is my way of rewarding many of you in my important work of saving JWs. To donate, please go to the website...”
Suffice it to say the response wouldn’t have been anywhere nearly as supportive as the thread you see there. Keep in mind that at the time he announced the book he was still proofreading his wife’s translation work for a living.

What he was going to do was pull a “disfellowship me please” stunt in order to appeal to a publisher to give him an advance. In other words, write a book, get disfellowshipped, and then either write another book about that or include the latest info in a second edition. In short no one was interested and he quickly found he had to do it himself. Here he details how he would go under a pen name if he was forced to self-publish:

So in a book he was marketing in part to people, many of whom did not want to get disfellowshipped in the first place and wish they weren’t, he was willing to put his status with the org on the line in order to sell books. When that didn’t work, he wanted them to give him his much desired “advance” he couldn’t get from a publishing company, which he did to the tune of over $20000 for the first book. Now he wants the same people to pay for another book that no publisher wanted a piece of.

I believe Lloyd missed his calling as a Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army of China - Prison Camp Division. It always takes a special someone to convince prisoners to think they are making a difference towards the cause with forced labour.

I’ve never lived or worked in Hermosillo, but I think I can confidently say that translating The Reluctant Apostate into Spanish for free and have to deal with that shit is not too business savvy or emotionally beneficial.
It’s like he’s running a foreign sweatshop. He takes pictures in Venice (just last week) and has no shame in stiffing the foot soldiers and demanding names of potential copyright offenders.

Lloyd Evans: “...because if the copyright was breached I obviously need to act on that”
I seem to remember Lloyd starting a Reddit attack thread on the COC copyright holder for “acting on that”, singling her out because she sent him a Cease and Desist letter. In the mind of Lloyd Evans, only he can act on copyright violations when they are done on his book. When someone else does it for copyrighted work he has breached, it’s a “witch hunt”.
According to Lloyd himself, copyrights can only be breached if you are selling it for profit. His Spanish translation team was obviously not selling this for profit; in fact they were doing pro bono work for him translating his for-profit book from English into Spanish. See his comment below:
Thus according to the eternal wisdom of Lloyd Evans, he himself has nothing to complain about due to the fact that no profit was gained from the sharing of his PDF.
Hecce: Please forward this screenshot to your Spanish group. They are doing nothing wrong (according to him) and Lloyd is either being stupid or a hypocrite. Probably both.

I wouldn’t bother asking him, it’s not too pleasant a question and should he be guilty of such, you think he is just going to tell you the truth? With that said, to get my jollies I asked him a similar question on YouTube. I got a quick response that accused me of being “obsessed with my penis”.
Not trying to be mean, but Lloyd has a certain “look” about him. Eager to clear my intentions with him, I started thus: “Lloyd I am most certainly not obsessed with your penis”. But I fell for this cruel folly and had a bit of a vomit reflex when I realised that I had used “Lloyd” and “penis” in the same sentence. Needless to say I let it go and let him have the last word, which is what he wanted anyhow.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have to be the biggest losers around. First they fall for Kingdom Hall building projects that are not really necessary and are sold off with profits sent directly to HQ. They give, give and give to unspecified “Worldwide Work” and the methods of coercion get fairly creative.
Alas, when it is time to leave after years of being abused, when they just can’t go on anymore... and after paying the ultimate price of losing life-long family and friends... They are informed of another cause, this time to bring JWs out of the religion to hasten it’s demise. Wow! How can I make this so?
